As with the natural laws of physics, the attempt to quantify the artistry of a musician is a process that can be tenacious depending of the breath and depth of each individual. Notwithstanding, each artist brings distinct creative elements that represent his/her individual values, principals and moral character.
Rightly so is the music of Gloria Estefan which contains deep emotions; but, most profoundly, Gloria’s artistry encompasses a unique spirituality that envelops the rhythm of liberty and freedom.
Alas, the spirit of Gloria’s artistic rhythm is distinctive. And like a gentle stream quietly nestled in a lush rainforest that trickles with tenderness atop a raging volcano—its powerful essence is revealed in the ear of the beholder as a force that inspires and unifies.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Gloria immigrated to the United States as a child. The family eventually settled down in Miami, Florida, where she attended St. Michael-Archangel School and Our Lady Of Lourdes High School in Miami.
In 1976, Gloria met bandleader Emilio Estefan and became part of a local band called Miami Sound Machine. Two years later, She and Emilio married. Early 1980s, with Gloria as the lead vocalist, Miami Sound Machine released several albums that catapulted the band into worldwide fame—including top hits like “Dr. Beat”, “Words Get In The Way”, “Conga”, “Bad Boy”, and others.
Gloria and the Miami Sound Machine created a new transformative sound that represented the mergence of traditional Cuban rhythms with America Pop grooves and English lyrics that would launch a new musical revolution known as Latin Pop. This new sound would cause a sensation in the United States; also topping hit charts worldwide. Since then, Gloria Estefan has become one of the top 100 selling artists with close to 90 million records sold worldwide.
In many ways, Estefan’s life represents the fulfillment of the American dream. From very humble beginnings, she became successful as a result of her hard work and focused determination.
And along the way, she has used her life experiences as a wife, mother and artist to give back to the community and make a positive difference in people’s lives. And the fruits of her artistic labor of love have been cherished by many people worldwide.
Throughout her long career, Gloria has gained great recognition as a performing artist by winning seven Grammy Awards and many honors; as well as being recognized as a humanitarian for different charitable causes.
She has also amassed an amazing musical body of works that have touched the souls of many people. Perhaps one song in particular encapsulates the essence of what any individual is capable of achieving when he/she enjoys the blessings of liberty and freedom. This song is entitled “Get on Your Feet.”
The simple message of this song is that any individual from any culture or background who has the desire to succeed has the inner potential to “get on your feet and make it happen.” Thus, Gloria has made a significant contribution to humanity by helping to empower liberty and freedom for every indvidual that wants it; thereby, the possibilities are endless. br
